A 64-year-old female presented with a Type IIIA open tibia fracture after a fall from stairs. Past medical history was significant for knee osteoarthritis precluding insertion of a tibial intramedullary nail. Patient was treated operatively by using a unicortical mini fragment plate to achieve an anatomic provisional reduction after debridement and irrigation. Next, through a minimally invasive small incision in the medial malleolus, a guidewire was placed. The IlluminOss implant was then inserted, filled with liquid monomer, and cured with visible light. Attention was then placed to supplement fracture fixation with a plate and screw construct for support. Once the wound healed at 2.5 weeks, she was allowed to weight bear as tolerated. At follow up, reduction was maintained, and the patient was ambulating with no pain.
