Case Illustration: IlluminOss Used in Conjunction with a Plate in the Treatment of a Humerus Nonunion - 82-year-old Female

An 82-year-old female sustained a humerus fracture after a ground level fall and was seen by another physician who recommended closed treatment. Pastmedical history was significant for hypertension, high BMI, poor bone quality and lymph node dissection on the injured arm. Several months later, she presented with pseudoarthrosis and loss of mobility. The patient was treated operatively, reducing the pseudoarthrosis through open reduction. A small incision was made, an IlluminOss implant was inserted, filled with liquid monomer, and cured with visible light. Lag screws were then placed through the IlluminOss, and the distal fragments and a bypassing plate was placed over the humeral shaft. At 6 weeks post-op the patient reported no pain with good range of motion in her arm.
