Case Illustration: Acetabular Fracture - 74 year old female

A 74-year female presented with an acetabular fracture after a fall and was unable to ambulate due to pain. The patient had an extensive past medical history significant for metastatic lung cancer currently undergoing chemotherapy and a symptomatic right hip AVN. CT scan revealed a minimally displaced acetabular fracture adjacent to the hip AVN. Fixation of the fracture was essential to create a more stable construct of the acetabulum in preparation of a primary total hip arthroplasty. The patient was treated operatively with percutaneous fixation in a retrograde approach using IlluminOss implants through the anterior and posterior column. The IlluminOss implants were inserted, filled with liquid monomer, and cured with visible light. Within a couple of days, she underwent additional fixation with a primary total hip arthroplasty. At 2-months post-op, patient was doing well.
